Cannabidiol and hemp derived CBD have been linked to help treat seizures of all kinds. Seizures, by definition, are any uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain, which may produce a physical convulsion, minor physical signs, thought disturbances, or a combination of symptoms. They may be caused by epilepsy, tumors, head injury or may be idiopathic (caused by an unknown reason). Seizures can be debilitating and often interfere with the ability to lead a full and happy life.
According to Discover CBD, formal research and patient testimonials indicate that the use of Cannabidiol in the reduction of seizures is a viable alternative to other medications. Although no medication is without side effects, the side effects found while using hemp derived CBD in any form is minimal in comparison to other medically approved seizure medications.
The Epilepsy Foundation, a group of parent advocates, believes that cannabis should be a valid treatment option for physicians and patients dealing with epilepsy ( Rabinski, 2015.) The group also has called for an end to the Drug Enforcement Administration restrictions that limit research, including clinical trials.
“The Epilepsy Foundation supports the rights of patients and families living with seizures and epilepsy to access physician-directed care, including medical marijuana. The Epilepsy Foundation believes that an end to seizures should not be determined by one’s zip code.”
Currently, there are a number of government approved clinical trials looking at the efficacy of Cannabidiol as treatment for multiple types of seizures.
